Aug 15, 2014 In game overlay not working on Mac after latest update? (It is enabled in Accessibility in System Preferences) submitted 4. And clicked the check box to allow Steam access to my computer, although it already was checked. I unchecked it and checked it again, quit out of system preferences, restarted Steam, but it still isn't working in game. Due to this issue, I'm unable to use the Steam overlay in-game. I didn't find much following a google search or searching these forums aside from suggesting I enable the beta, which I have. I have also rebooted my computer and application, so there's that as well.
Might be a corrupt .plist.
Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
